Sneak peek!

The other day, little miss Peyton had her very first photo shoot with Mindy from Blue Water Photog (www.bluewaterphotog.com). Peyton wasn't being very cooperative that day, but Mindy managed to get some great pictures of her anyway. Here is a sneak peek of how the photo shoot went. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but isn't she so stinkin' cute?

Peyton Grace Seymour

Our daughter, Peyton Grace Seymour, was born on November 10th, 2010 at 5:11pm. She weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. She is absolutely perfect and Kevin and I could not be happier. We realize just how blessed we are to be her parents.

PEYTON GRACE SEYMOUR
Peyton seems to be taking after us already. She was one week late (I seem to always be late wherever I go!) and she probably would have hibernated a bit longer had we not been induced. She was happy as a clam right where she was. We were supposed to be admitted on Monday, November 8th at midnight, but the hospital called to tell us that there were no beds available. We were instructed to call back at 4am in the morning to see how busy they were. We called and they were still swamped. They had us call back every 2 hours until 11am when they finally instructed me to come in for a Non Stress Test. So at 3pm we arrived at the hospital for the NST. The NST came back looking fine and we were all set to be discharged and come back the next day, but right before we were about to leave, our doctor happened to walk by our room and Kevin caught her attention. She pulled some strings and was able to get us admitted right then and there (nevermind we stayed in the "admitting room" - the size of a walk in closet - for the first night!). We were just happy to finally be getting the whole process going. At 9pm, they gave me some medication which had to be administered for a 12 hour period. They instructed us that the medication only worked like 50% of the time, and if it didn't work the first time, that we would have to try again for another 12 hours. Spending 24 hours lying in bed didn't sound like much fun, so we were really crossing our fingers that it would work the first time around. At 9am the next morning, they checked to see if I had started to dilate, and I was finally at a 2. I had spent two weeks at a 1, so I figured any progress was good progress. Then around 10am we finally moved rooms and lucked out with a private room. I was having contractions pretty regularly, but they weren't anything I couldn't handle - at first. They started me on Pitocin shortly after and the contractions increased in strength pretty noticeably. For the most part, I was doing pretty good. It wasn't until they would check to see how dilated I was did it move me to tears. It was so uncomfortable! That discomfort coupled with increasingly painful contractions was getting to be too much. At noon, I asked about an epidural, just in case. Our nurse said it would take about 15 minutes to get the anesthesiologist in to administer one. So, I kept that in the back of mind, but I had really wanted to wait it out until I just couldn't take it anymore since I had heard that sometimes epidurals slow labor down. I definitely didn't want that since it had taken so long just to start labor! But around 12:3opm, I had had enough. The nurse checked me and I was only at a 3 (after 3 hours!!!), but I was over it. I needed pain relief. The anesthesiologist came in around 1pm and by 1:15pm, I was in heaven!!! Thank GOD for epidurals! I felt nothing - no pain, no pressure. It was great. I was able to sleep for an hour or two and just relax. Around 4pm, I started to feel some pain (in my butt of all places!). It felt like I had done a million squats and that my buns were on fire. My nurse suggested I move positions so that the epidural could circulate. After 30 minutes, I was still in the same pain, so she decided to check me again. Amazingly, I was at a 9!! Hallelujah! She immediately called the doctor and by the time the doctor arrived around 5pm, I was more than ready. I only had to push for like 5-10 minutes, through maybe 3 sets of contractions. And then my daughter was born..... There is absolutely no way to even describe the feeling that comes over you when someone puts your daughter in your arms for the first time. I am tearing up just writing this. She is perfect and innocent and the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me. After just a moment with her, I could not imagine life without her. I can't wait to share all the special moments in life with her and watch her grow into an amazingly beautiful little girl (just not too fast!). So that's our story. Hopefully, as time permits, I can keep the blog updated about our journey through being new parents and Peyton's big milestones. Here are a few pictures of our daughter. :)

The Baby Room - Part II

Okay, so it's officially done....well, except for putting her name on the wall (because we haven't technically picked her name yet!). Here are the final shots of Baby Seymour's room.....enjoy!

My friend Krista painted this cute little owl painting for the baby :)

The Closet - jam packed full of the cutest baby clothes ever!

Her name will go above the crib...eventually!

My friend Mindy painted this owl painting...so talented!

Baby Shower!

I was so blessed to have some of my girlfriends throw me such an amazing baby shower a couple of weeks ago. It was SO beautiful and SO much fun that I wanted to share some of the pictures. Thank you to everyone that came and for all of the wonderful gifts!

My hostess' and all our moms....Ruth and Mindy, Me and my mom, Kristin and Patty, and Shirley and Kristi (and Brooke!). The day turned out to be absolutely amazing and I couldn't have imagined anything better. They put SO much time and effort into making my day so special and it was soooo appreciated. Thank you girls!!!!

The Baby Room

Eight months later, and we're ALMOST done! And boy has it taken some hard work to get there....but it was well worth it. :)

It all started with the bedding I found and everything kind of evolved from there. We painted the room what was supposed to be a cream color, which turned out to be pretty much yellow (the lighting in Home Depot must be bad!). Even though Kevin thinks it looks like mustard yellow (which it totally does not), I like it anyway. Then we installed new carpet (throughout the whole house - yippee!) and put new baseboards and crown molding in. Kevin has been quite the handyman these days, and thanks to him, Baby Seymour officially has the nicest room in the house. I assembled all of the baby furniture while Kevin slaved away painting and cutting wood. I have to say we make a pretty good team. After all of the room prepping was done, we moved in the furniture. Then it came the fun part - decorating! My friend Melissa had the genius idea to make curtains....ladies beware; this sounds a lot easier than it really was (but we still had a lot of fun doing it). We went fabric shopping at my home away from home - Downtown LA. I think we now have a favorite new fabric store (thank you Michael Levine!). With a little trial and error, we managed to make some pretty fabulous curtains for both the window and the closet. I am REALLY happy with how they turned out and I love that they are one of a kind. So far, I have found a lamp and some knickknacks that I just had to have. The walls are still bare for now, but I have big plans for those too. You'll just have to check back and see the finished product....sometime between now and D-Day. :)

Lately...

Lots of little changes lately that I wanted to share:
  • Baby Seymour has become a lot more active and I can feel her move ALL the time. :)
  • We are going on our BabyMoon tomorrow - ahhh, the Bahamas for a week is just what the doctor ordered.
  • I built the dresser for Baby Seymour's room. And I didn't even screw up once - even with the not so great instructions. I'm excited to get the rest of the furniture built.
  • Kevin finished painting the baby's room. It definitely came out a lot yellower than we had planned, but I think I've talked myself into being fine with it since I'm not about to go back out and buy all new paint and start from scratch. I'm sure it will turn out great.
  • I had my 5 month check-up on Thursday and everything is going well. Baby Seymour has a strong heartbeat and is still a girl despite Kevin's suggestion that the ultrasound tech got it wrong last time. :)
  • I never knew how hard it would be to set up a baby registry! Not that I'm complaining about signing up for gifts - but you really can't just look at most of the stuff and say "Oh that's cute; I'll get that." There is lots of research involved!! I'm just about done....just need to add a few last things to the list.
  • Now that I know we are having a girl, it's SO hard not to buy baby clothes every time I see something cute. I've been pretty good about resisting the urge, but it takes some serious will power.
Kevin and I can't believe how fast time is actually going by. Somehow it is already July! Four more months and we'll be parents. That just seems crazy to us. One of Kevin's buddies just had a baby this week and it was really touching to see how excited Kevin got for them.

Alright - I have some serious packing to do! We hope everyone has a fun (and SAFE) 4th of July!! See you when we get back!

Oh Baby!

So yesterday was the big day. We had our doctors appointment with the ultrasound to finally find out the sex of the baby. At first, the baby didn't seem to want to cooperate. "It" was face down with its legs firmly together, and wasn't budging. We almost thought that we just weren't going to have any luck and would have to agonize for another four weeks until our next appointment. But, our ultrasound technician finally got the baby to move just enough so that you could see between the legs - and sure enough - (just like I thought) we are having a GIRL! Kevin is still wondering if the technician made a mistake since he was SO sure that we were going to have a boy, but I know he is excited to be having a daughter. I overheard him talking on the phone to a friend from work last night, and he's already started thinking of names. So now the big task will be to come up with a girls name that we both love. We had already decided on a boys name that we both really liked, so I think God has a funny way of showing us that life never goes according to our plans (but maybe rather his). Either way - we will be extremely happy to have a healthy baby in the end. So now it's time to shop for all things girly! :)

Here We Go...

So I've been admiring other peoples' blogs for awhile now and my friend Melissa has finally talked me into starting one. Now the goal will be to stick with updating it regularly!!!

I'll start with a little background to catch all of you up. I met my husband, Kevin, about four and a half years ago, and we got married October 10th of last year. We had a blast at our wedding and had the honor of celebrating our big day with all of our closest friends and family. We honeymooned in Hawaii; our trip started with a stay at the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's North Shore, and then we cruised around Kauai, Hawaii, Oahu, and Maui. We had soooo much fun on our trip. We've spent the last few months trying to remodel/redecorate our home, working crazy busy schedules, celebrating with our friends as they also got married, and just having fun. And to top it all off - we are expecting a baby in November. We couldn't be more excited! We get to find out the sex next week. Kevin is dying for a little boy, and I'm indifferent so far (but secretly, I think its a girl). So, we'll see......

Here are some pictures of the past few months. :)
